Here's an important question when it comes to dating: When do you have sex with someone? Women, especially ask this. After all, guys and girls have very different views on sex and what it means to them. It often represents the beginning of a serious relationship for women. Whereas… well, guys just don't see it that way. Here's the thing: until you're absolutely sure the person is into and (dare I say it?) loves you, don't have sex. Only when you're ready emotionally should you proceed. Here are some more great tips on this subject from Evan Mark Katz. Image from Morguefile. See full article. Dating Zen Learning how to be an expert dater can come from any area of life. You can learn about how to present yourself on a first date by following the principles you would a job interview, for example. Dress well, speak intelligently, and be on time are all things that could apply to an interview or a first date. But is there a "zen" to dating? Are there lessons to be learned from the principles of kung fu, for instance? You bet. MSN had a nice article on the things you could learn, and I have to say the first lesson ("Practice Makes Perfect") is one of the best. After all, what better way to be a successful dater than by actually going on dates? It might sound simple, but the reality is many daters want to go on a date and meet the guy or girl of their dreams in the space of a few outings. It takes time. It takes practice. You can't expect to be fresh on the dating scene and make the best impression. It stands to reason that you'll be nervous or shy. The more you do it, the more relaxed you'll be. And while it may sound daunting to have to go on "a lot" of dates, remember that the more you do it, the better able you are to recognize the right one when you meet him or her. Win a Copy of Get Your Dating Game On I've got a fun little dating book to give away here to the readers of the Dating Weblog. It's called Get Your Dating Game On and has great tips on how to present your best self while searching for the mate of your dreams. Jennifer Worick, author of Get Your Dating Game On, has a wonderful description on her website: Unless your perfect match is the mailman or the plumber, Mr. Right won't be appearing at your door anytime soon. So get out there-outside, out of bounds, outta sight. Just get out of the house! Get Your Dating Game On gives you all the information you need to brave the "single and ready to mingle" scene. In the book she has a flirting "crib sheet," tips for screening voicemail responses, conversation tools, and more. I have a copy of this great book to give away. If you'd like to win, leave a comment on this post with the best opening line you've ever heard. It could be one you've used personally, one that someone else has used on you, or even something you've heard on TV or in the movies. Leave your comment by Thursday, July 10th. I'll select the best line and announce the winner the following day. (Sorry, I can only send the book to those in the U.S. or Canada.) See full article. Online Dating With HIV Online dating is a great way to meet your match. But for many HIV-positive gay men and women, the subject of their illness remains secret. And how do you tell someone you've just met that you're HIV-positive? How do you get to know them if you're afraid of being honest? These days, there are many sites devoted to people who are HIV positive. The Edge out of Boston names several: "BeOneCity, launched recently in Los Angeles, PositiveSingles, PozitiveLiving, PozMatch.com, PositivePersonals." The sites take the stigma off the disease and act as forums for information in addition to meeting others. The site BeOneCity is also developing a HIV-positive site that will service the heterosexual community. I think anytime you eliminate an obstacle to hide behind with online dating, it is a good thing. Honesty and the ability to be yourself is the only true way to find real love. Image from Morguefile. Ugly People Need Not Apply Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but at the BeautifulPeople Network it's a requirement to post a profile. The online dating service has a "ban on ugliness." The thing I wondered was, WHO decides if someone is beautiful? According to one source, the choice goes to approved members who decide if someone is pretty or handsome enough to gain entrance to this little club. Even if you thought of yourself as beautiful, wouldn't the fact that they screened people this way be a turnoff? The owner of the site says it's all natural: "There's certainly nothing shallow about that, it's human nature." That may be, but I've met lots of people I was initially attracted to only to talk to them a bit and get turned off by their rudeness or stupidity or arrogance. In other words, beauty goes beyond the physical! But more than that, I'm wondering what you guys think of this service? Have you used it? Would you? Image from Morguefile. See full article.
